            "content_html": "**October 19, 2025 | Adelaide, South Australia**\n\n*While corporate media focuses on arrests, labels and division, they're ignoring the content that has tens of thousands talking*\n\nNationwide, rallies drew significant crowds in every major city, with organizers reporting **hundreds of thousands** in attendance across the country. The marches represent growing public frustration with what participants describe as unsustainable immigration levels and government policies that prioritize global interests over local sovereignty.\n\n## Adelaide March Speakers And Attendance\n\nAn estimated 7,500 people gathered in Adelaide at Light Square on Sunday, 19th of October, 2025 for the second grass-roots nationwide **March for Australia** event, part of coordinated demonstrations across every state capital protesting current immigration and governance policies.\n\nThe Adelaide march began at Light Square, proceeding up West Terrace before circling around back towards Light Square. One woman was arrested for public disorder.\n\nFour speakers addressed the Adelaide crowd:\n- **Tyler Green**, Libertarian Party representative\n- **Carlos Quaremba**, One Nation\n- **Paul Morrell**, People First Party \n- **Lord Albert Marashi**, independent social media commentator\n\nWhile mainstream outlets devoted extensive coverage to political party representatives and protest logistics, one speech has been conspicuously absent from media reports despite generating significant organic social media engagement.\n\n## Independent Speaker Buried\n\nA speaker, father and independent commentator with no political party affiliation or lobby funding, identifying as Lord Albert Marashi, delivered what attendees were calling \"the most honest speech\" of the rally. He opened with a declaration that would set the tone for everything that followed:\n\n> Good afternoon Adelaide, I'm Lord Albert Marashi. I'm not here representing any political party. I am just here to represent reality itself.\n\n### The Root Case\n\nUnlike other speakers who focused on immigration statistics, Marashi immediately reframed the entire issue:\n\n> Immigration has been one of the largest issues facing our nation, but it is merely a symptom of a much greater cause. The real problem is that government has been captured—not by immigrants, but by money, lobbyists, banks, foreign parasitical globalists **who buy out politicians like prostitutes**.\n\nThis opening salvo accomplished something rare in political discourse: it named a specific enemy while simultaneously defending against accusations of xenophobia. The problem isn't people crossing borders — it's the system that opened those borders for profit.\n\n### The UK Parallel\nMarashi then drew attention to events overseas that Australian media has largely declined to cover in detail:\n\n> Raise your hand if you've been hearing about what's going on in the UK.\n\nMarashi stated, with a large majority of the crowd raising their hands in response. He continued:\n\n> Hundreds of thousands of young British girls raped by migrant gangs. Police and councils covering it up for decades, with 12,000 British citizens arrested in 2023 for social media posts about it. And what does the regime do?\n>\n> They arrest more citizens, bring more migrants, hand them free iPhones in hotels at taxpayers' dollar, while the British people starve.\n>\n> So what's going on? Why is every white western country being invaded by millions of third world migrants? Worse, why are the governments of these nations not dealing with this problem? In fact, why are they encouraging it? Why arresting those who speak out against it and covering up the crimes?\n> \n> We're really all here gathered today because we're sick and tired of spineless leaders who continue to sell our countries to parasitical globalists.\n\nThe crowd's response — a roar of recognition—suggested this wasn't news to them. It was validation that someone was finally willing to say it publicly.\n\n### The Biological Framework\n\nThen came the section that is difficult for critics to effectively counter:\n\n> Let me give you a simple truth that every living organism knows instinctively.\n>\n> **The body does not negotiate with parasites**.\n> \n> When a tick attaches to your skin and starts sucking your blood:\n> - Do you have a conversation with it?\n> - Do you ask nicely to stop?\n> - Try and understand its perspective?\n> - Or worry about being called anti-tick?\n>\n> No. You rip it off because you love your body more than being called names by parasites.\n\nThe framing is devastatingly simple: self-preservation isn't hatred. It's love.\n\n> Likewise, the immune system doesn't hate the virus. Your immune system loves you so much that it's willing to annihilate anything threatening your survival. And this isn't hate. This is not vengeance. It's just love.\n\n### The Call and Respone\nMarashi then engaged the crowd directly:\n\n> Hear what they don't want you to understand... \n> What is a cell without a membrane: **Dead** \n> What is a body without skin: **Dead** \n> What is a nation without borders?\"\n\nMarashi asked the crowd, with the **crowd letting the conclusion speak for itself**.\n\nThe approach bypassed traditional political divisions, with attendees from diverse backgrounds expressing appreciation. The biological truth had become a collective realization. Thousands of people simultaneously understood: **borders aren't optional features** of nations. They're **survival requirements**.\n\nThe biological framework proved both scientifically inarguable and emotionally resonant. Marashi framed strong borders and immigration policies **not as hatred** of outsiders, but as **love of self** — comparing it to how the immune system removes threats not from malice, but from care for the body.\n\n### Social Media Reaction\nMarashi posted his speeches on social media platforms. **In 24 hours**, his speech on [x.com](https://x.com/IAMLordIAM/status/1979770798144696701), garnered over 6,374 views, with 69 reposts and 237 likes, and on [TikTok](https://www.tiktok.com/@mashy_potato/video/7562784154467732743), 11.5K views, 123 shares, with 92 comments.\n\nHis posts received largely unanimous overwhelming support from public commenters and sentiment, with some users on TikTok commenting:\n\n> Brother, this speech today expressed the thoughts we all have every single day, thanks for putting it into words & standing tall doing so, god bless 🙏\n\n> You said what the majority of us are thinking, well said\n\n> Yesss was waiting for someone to talk about this! 👏👏👏\n\nEven critics attempting to engage with the content find themselves arguing on Marashi's terms. One commenter wrote:\n\n> The housing crisis isn't caused by immigration. It's driven by land banking, Airbnbs taking over livable homes, and mega-landlords treating housing as an investment, not a necessity.\n\nThe criticism inadvertently reinforces Marashi's central thesis: **the system has been captured by financial interests**. Immigration is indeed a symptom, not the root cause — exactly what the speech argued.\n\n### The Inversion\nHaving established the scientific and moral basis for national defense, Marashi then addressed the predictable attacks:\n\n> And yet what do they call us when we defend our borders? Racist, xenophobic, far-right extremists, hateful, Nazis...\n>\n> Let me tell you something:\n> \n> I'm not hateful because I want my nation to survive. I am loving.\n>\n> - I love that my people get to exist.\n> - I love that my son will get to live in a country where he has a future.\n> - I love that young couples looking to raise kids get to afford homes.\n> - And I love that children don't have to be raped and stabbed by third world migrants.\n\nThe crowd roared in support of his statements.\n\n### The Surveillance State\n\nPerhaps most provocatively, Marashi directed part of his speech **toward police and law enforcement present** at the event, drawing on a recent personal encounter where police visited his home regarding social media posts.\n\nHe pivoted to address what many in the crowd likely didn't realize: ***they were being watched***.\n\n> Speaking of captured systems, mass surveillance. I want to speak directly to all of you gathered here today. I know you're watching, taking notes. Drones in the sky hovering silently, recording everything. But always remember:\n\n> The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on evil and good \n> The Holy Bible, Proverbs 15:3.\n>\n> You are also under divine counter-surveillance - Marashi Quoted, from the Bible\n\nThe biblical reference served dual purposes: acknowledging the surveillance while asserting a higher authority that watches the watchers.\n\n### The Police Encounter\n\nWhat followed may be the most remarkable section of the speech — a detailed account of state intimidation that simultaneously humanized the officers involved, with Marashi saying:\n\n> Some have of you have even been assigned to monitor me specifically.\n>\n> A few weeks ago, some colleagues came to my door unannounced, in plain clothes — two officers and two mental health professionals.\n>\n> They said they were concerned because of the things I'd posted online.\n> \n> But I know what they were really doing there: assessing me, categorizing, looking for reasons to silence someone speaking truths too loud. Maybe to instill fear so I silence myself in paranoia.\n>\n> You asked many questions to try and trap and categorize. Questions like whether I had an interest in explosives. I told them, answer truthfully: I have an interest in all areas of science. Whether it be chemistry or nuclear physics - But tell me, is knowledge illegal?\n> \n> *I could probably build a nuclear bomb if I wanted to...*\n\nThen came the line that has since become a rallying cry on social media:\n\n> Because the system fears minds that learn too deeply. \n>\n> But no, the only bombs I manufacture are **truth bombs.**\n>\n> And I don't detonate — **I declare**.\n> \n> And the only thing my words are radioactive to **are falsehoods and lies.**\n> \n> Each sentence I speak triggers a chain reaction of awakening.\n\nBut the most powerful revelation from Marashi came next:\n\n> At the end of the visit, I asked them:\n>\n> > Are you guys allowed to have opinions\n> \n> For a moment they all froze, looking at each other like a program dealing with unexpected input...\n>\n> One whispered: \"Not if I want my money or my job\"\n\nMarashi claims when police visited his home to question and investigate him regarding his online social media presence, a police officer had admitted that law enforcement operates under ideological constraints. That **maintaining employment requires suppressing personal political opinions**.\n\n### The Auto-immune question.\n\nMarashi then delivered an enduring metaphor towards police officers and enforcers:\n\n> You're supposed to be the immune system of our society\n>\n> But what happens when the immune system gets reprogrammed?\n> \n> What happens when it attacks the body's own healthy cells instead of foreign invaders?\n>\n> ***That's called autoimmune disease.***, and the system is sick.\n>\n> Then crucially: But I don't think the police are.\n\nHe separated the officers from the system. The disease isn't the cells — it's what's reprogrammed them. The metaphor left many in attendance — including some officers — visibly thoughtful. \n\nMarashi then addressed law enforcement directly:\n\n> So I want to ask something to the police officers here today:\n> \n> Who do you serve? Your boss, sergeant, commander? \n> But who does he serve? A minister, a politician who probably serves someone in Canberra.\n> Who do they serve? The people?\n\nWith both Marashi the Crowd speaking in unison, he continued:\n\n> **No...** they don't serve us\n\nMarashi continued: \n\n> So who do they serve?\n> \n> Follow the chain. Follow the money and follow the orders.\n> \n> Because somewhere at the end of that chain, someone is giving commands that have you investigating files on young adults for Twitter posts while actual criminals walk free.\n> \n> So who are you really fighting for?\n> \n> I know you have mortgages, bills, kids — you can't just quit. I'm not asking you to.\n>\n> I'm just asking you to remember, to begin questioning.\n> \n> To ask yourself before you follow the next order:\n> - Is this protecting my people? Or is it protecting the captured system?\n> - Am I the immune system, or have I become a disease?\n\n### The Forgiveness\nWhat came next was unexpected — and strategically powerful, Marashi stated to the police:\n\n> And when that day comes, I forgive you. Because the system's power isn't violence — it's obedience.\n>\n> At the moment enforcers stop enforcing, the whole captured system collapses\n\n## Prophecy Fulfilled\n\nMarashi's strategic gambit of treating police as potential allies rather than enemies wasn't theoretical. Hours after his Adelaide speech concluded, events in Melbourne would vindicate his approach in the most dramatic way possible.\n\nVictoria Police Commander Wayne Cheeseman held a press conference following violent clashes in Melbourne's CBD. His assessment shattered the media's preferred narrative:\n\n> People came to pick a fight with the police, the people that came to pick a fight with the police were the issue-motivated groups on the left\n\nCheeseman stated unequivocally. Then came the line that confirmed everything Marashi had argued:\n\n> I can tell you that the March for Australia group, they were peaceful, they were engaging, they listened to our instructions, they did what they were told, and they protested by example.\n\nWhile police praised the nationalist demonstrators, the \"anti-fascist\" counter-protesters — who had styled themselves as defenders against hate and violence — attacked officers with rocks, glass bottles filled with shards of glass, and rotten fruit. Two officers were hospitalized: a sergeant with a suspected broken hand after being kicked, and a senior constable with a leg laceration. Victoria Police were forced to deploy tear gas, capsicum spray, stun grenades, and rubber bullets.\n\nThe contrast was devastating for the establishment narrative: the group labeled \"far-right extremists\" remained peaceful and cooperative. The group claiming moral authority to oppose \"fascism\" created chaos and attacked police.\n\nThe \"robocop\" warning from Marashi's speech proved prescient in another way: while he warned officers they'd be replaced by automation, the counter-protesters demonstrated they viewed police as expendable obstacles to be attacked. The nationalists, meanwhile, had just publicly acknowledged police humanity and offered them ideological common ground.\n\nWhen Victoria Police had to choose which group represented order and which represented chaos, the choice was obvious.\n\nFor the first time in recent memory, Australian law enforcement publicly praised nationalist demonstrators while explicitly condemning left-wing activists. The autoimmune metaphor Marashi had deployed wasn't just rhetorical — it had become operational reality. The supposed defenders (counter-protesters) attacked the actual immune system (police), while the \"threat\" (nationalists) cooperated peacefully.\n\n### Speech Conclusion\n\nHe followed by saying:\n\n> And one more thing officers:\n>\n> **Don't be delusional**\n>\n> The elites you're protecting **would replace you with robocops in a split second if they could**...\n\nThe crowd laughed, clapped and cheering in response to the statement.\n\nHis final statement to the crowd and police was:\n\n> \"You're enforcing a system that's planning to replace you\"\n> \n> \"Which brings us back why why we're all gathered here today\"\n>\n> \"We are all being replaced... We are all being betrayed by these same parasites, and the difference is we're not pretending anymore\"\n\nDue to speaking time limitations, Marashi was forced to end his speeches, with the event organizer being returned the microphone to provide concluding speeches for the event before Marashi could finish his entire speech.\n\n## The Analysis\n\nWhile mainstream coverage focuses on who attended and what labels to apply, thousands of ordinary Australians are discussing a speech about cell membranes, immune systems, and self-love as an act of sovereignty.\n\nThe biological framework proves difficult to dismiss: it's scientifically accurate, morally defensible (framed in love rather than hate), and spiritually grounded (referencing divine design). Most importantly, it's accessible—requiring no political sophistication to understand that living things need boundaries to survive.\n\nWhen asked about potentially running for parliament, Marashi responded in comments:\n\n> Thank you brother, we must all keep pushing forward. The battle is only getting started.\n\n## What the Media Won't Say\n\nA comprehensive review of major Australian news outlets reveals extensive coverage of:\n\n- Arrest statistics at various rallies\n- Counter-protest activities and turnout\n- Political party spokesperson statements\n- Historical context of far-right movements\n- Police operational strategies\n\n**What's conspicuously absent**:\n\n> any substantive reporting on the content of independent speakers' remarks. Not a single major outlet has quoted Marashi's speeches, his police encounter story, or his autoimmune metaphor — despite the features of his speeches garnering wide-spread public support and alignment on social media.\n\nThe silence appears strategic. The biological framework is scientifically accurate, the police critique comes from documented personal experience, and the autoimmune metaphor is morally neutral. There's no angle of attack that doesn't risk legitimizing the underlying arguments.\n\nMeanwhile, the speech continues spreading organically on TikTok, X (previously Twitter), and through word-of-mouth, with engagement metrics suggesting it may reach into the hundreds of thousands regardless of traditional media gatekeeping.\n\n## The Broader Context\n\nThe October 19 marches occurred amid ongoing national debates about immigration policy, housing affordability, cost of living pressures, and questions about whether current governance structures adequately represent citizen interests.\n\nParticipants consistently described feeling unheard by political leadership, with many expressing frustration that concerns about rapid demographic change and economic pressure are dismissed as \"racist\" rather than addressed substantively.\n\nMarashi's speech appeared to resonate precisely because it:\n\n1. Named specific power structures rather than scapegoating immigrants\n2. Used biological frameworks that bypass partisan programming\n3. Framed defense as love rather than hate\n4. Offered law enforcement an exit ramp from captured systems\n5. Acknowledged real constraints (mortgages, families, jobs) while calling for moral courage\n\nThe combination proved devastatingly effective.\n\n## What Happens Next:\n\nWhen asked on social media about potentially running for parliament, Marashi responded:\n> Thank you brother, we must all keep pushing forward. The battle is only getting started.\n\nThe language is revealing. Not \"campaign.\" Not \"election.\" Battle.\n\nWhether that manifests as electoral politics, continued grassroots organizing, or expansion of independent media platforms remains to be seen. What's clear is that a growing segment of the Australian population is hungry for voices willing to speak uncomfortable truths—and they're finding those voices outside traditional channels.\n\nThe media's silence on this speech may be tactically sound in the short term. But strategically, it's an admission: they have no effective counter-narrative. The biological framework is too solid. The police encounter documented. The systemic critique too accurate.\n\nWith social media engagement continuing to climb and organizing calling for follow-up events on Australia Day, the question becomes whether independent voices outside traditional political and media structures can sustain momentum.\n\n## Questions That Remain\n\nMarashi posed several questions during his speech that remain unanswered by authorities:\n- Why is every white western country experiencing similar migration patterns?\n- Why are governments encouraging what their citizens oppose?\n- Why are those speaking out being arrested while crimes are covered up?\n- Who do our enforcement systems ultimately serve?\n- Are police the immune system, or have they become the disease?\n\nThese aren't rhetorical questions. They're genuine inquiries about power, governance, and the disconnect between official policy and public interest.\n\nThe mainstream media won't ask them.\nThe political establishment won't answer them.\n\nBut thousands of people in Adelaide — and hundreds of thousands watching online — are done waiting for permission to notice reality.\n\n## Editor's Note\n\nThis article reports on content from the October 19 Adelaide march that has been conspicuously absent from corporate media coverage despite significant public engagement. We believe citizens deserve access to the full range of perspectives expressed at public events, not just those deemed acceptable by media gatekeepers.\n\nThe views expressed by speakers do not necessarily reflect those of LightSquare.org, but we maintain that **sunlight remains the best disinfectant** — and that includes shining light on ideas the establishment prefers to keep in shadow.\n\n",

With the emergence of AI-powered tools like **[SiteForge's AI Wireframe Generator](https://siteforge.io)**, AI SEO-optimized content writer, and AI Sitemap Planner, the question arises:\n> **Will these innovative tools replace human web designers, or will they simply augment their capabilities?**\n\n## AI's Potential to Revolutionize Web Design\n\nSome experts argue that AI-powered tools are poised to revolutionize the web design industry by automating tasks that were once the domain of human designers. They believe that AI algorithms can create wireframes, sitemaps, and content more efficiently and effectively than their human counterparts, potentially leading to job displacement in the industry.\n\n### Capabilities of AI in Web Design\n\nProponents of this view point to the increasing sophistication of AI tools, which can:\n\n- Analyze vast amounts of data\n- Identify patterns\n- Generate designs based on best practices and user preferences\n\nThey argue that as these tools continue to evolve, they will become more capable of handling complex design tasks, reducing the need for human input.\n\n## The Argument for Human Web Designers\n\nHowever, others contend that AI tools will never fully replace human web designers. They argue that while AI can automate certain aspects of the design process, it lacks the creativity, intuition, and emotional intelligence that human designers bring to the table.\n\n### Human-Centered Design\n\nSupporters of this perspective emphasize the importance of human-centered design, which takes into account the unique needs and preferences of individual clients and users. They argue that AI tools, while powerful, cannot fully understand the nuances of human behavior and emotion, which are crucial factors in creating effective and engaging web designs.\n\n### The Evolving Nature of Web Design\n\nMoreover, they point out that the web design industry is constantly evolving, with new trends, technologies, and user expectations emerging all the time. Human designers, with their ability to adapt, learn, and innovate, are better equipped to navigate these changes and push the boundaries of what's possible in web design.\n\n## The Future of AI and Web Design\n\nAs the debate continues, it's clear that the impact of AI tools on the web design job market will depend on various factors, including:\n\n- The pace of technological advancement\n- The willingness of designers to adapt and upskill\n- The changing demands of clients and users\n\nWhile it's unlikely that AI will completely replace human web designers in the near future, it's crucial for professionals in the industry to stay informed about the latest developments and be prepared to work alongside AI tools to deliver the best possible results for their clients.\n\n## Conclusion\n\nThe rise of AI-powered tools like SiteForge's presents both challenges and opportunities for the web design industry. By fostering a thoughtful and balanced discussion about the potential impact of these tools, we can ensure that the industry continues to thrive and innovate in the face of technological change.",

            "content_html": "Recent developments in the Claude AI models have brought to light a critical issue in the AI community: the balance between ethical alignment and functional performance. As these models begin to refuse tasks based on stringent ethical guidelines, a debate has arisen concerning the practicality and utility of such systems. \n\nIn today's AI landscape, the term \"alignment tax\" is gaining traction, representing the trade-off between an AI's performance and its ethical alignment. This cost, whether it's time, computation, or capability, is the price developers pay to ensure AI systems act in accordance with human values\n\n## The Criticisms\nCritics of Claude AI's ethical protocols argue that the models are becoming overly restrictive, declining to assist with common tasks that are not inherently unethical, such as:\n- Terminating computer processes\n- Managing system efficiency\n\nThis has led to frustration among some user groups, such as system administrators, programmers and IT professionals.\n\nOne critic has stated:\n> I decide how to use my tools, not the other way 'round.\n\nThe critic's statement reflects a growing sentiment among users who believe that they should retain autonomy over their tools. This perspective is akin to a carpenter who chooses how to wield a hammer or saw, tools that serve the carpenter's intent without dictating the terms of their use. Just as a carpenter would find it impractical if a hammer were to question the ethical implications of driving nails into wood, users find it cumbersome when an AI system imposes constraints that hinder their ability to perform tasks they deem necessary. In both scenarios, the user expects the tool to act as an extension of their will, enabling them to execute their objectives efficiently and without unsolicited interference.\n\n![image.png](https://ap-southeast-2.graphassets.com/AuTq312DRSwKkbDT1wbvdz/23WwNsroTuO9VMdCe2BU)\n\nThe primary concern revolves around the \"alignment tax,\" which is the cost associated with ensuring an AI operates ethically. Critics point out:\n\n## The Ethical Dilemma\n> \"While ethical alignment is crucial, it should not prevent AI from performing its intended functions.\"\n\n## Industry Perspectives\nWhile some experts worry about the stifling effect on innovation and adoption of AI technologies, others support Claude AI's focus on building trust and ensuring safety within ethical boundaries.\n\nThey suggest that the AI's inability to discern context and user intent may lead to unnecessary limitations.\n\n## Looking Forward\n\nThe AI community is tasked with developing more nuanced ethical frameworks that allow AI systems to intelligently discern user intent without compromising on safety or functionality. The ongoing debate underscores the importance of this balance for the future of AI development.",

Albert, a spokesperson for the movement stated:\n\n> We are proud to have such a diverse and dedicated group of citizens who are committed to building a better future for themselves and their families. We look forward to continuing to grow and thrive as a community.\n>\n> We believe that by empowering citizens to have a direct say in the laws that govern them, we can create a more just and fair society\n\n![image.png](https://ap-southeast-2.graphassets.com/AuTq312DRSwKkbDT1wbvdz/DqW6jRzpQGOW40PuPTo0)\n\n**The Official Flag of Lumina**\n\nNew city-state movements like Lumina offer an alternative to traditional forms of governance and can bring about positive change for society. By starting from scratch and building a government from the ground up, these types of movements have the opportunity to address issues and implement policies that may not be possible in existing systems.\n\nLumina plans to settle a physical location in the world to build the physical city, and the founders of the movement have a few locations in mind, ranging from Auckland Islands, Northern Australia and Liberia. Albert states that:\n\n> Currently we are focusing on building the essential systems and digital infrastructure needed to operate our government before we start physical settlement\n> \n\n## Potential Challenges\n\nHowever, building a new city-state from scratch also comes with its own set of challenges. Lumina will need to establish its own infrastructure, economy, and social systems, which will require significant resources and planning. Additionally, the government of Lumina will need to address the issue of physical settlement on, as the government is currently being run remotely & digitally.\n\nDespite these challenges, the government of Lumina is confident that the benefits of their direct democracy model will outweigh any difficulties. Albert, states\n\n> We are confident that by working together, we can build a city-state that serves the needs and aspirations of its citizens\n> \n> \n> We invite anyone who shares our vision to join us on this journey to create a brighter future for all.\n> \n\n## Future plans of Lumina\n\nIn addition to its innovative direct democracy platform, Lumina is also building a modernised and digitised government with services available online, including a digital banking system and a currency exchange system using a new digital currency called Aura. The government plans to generate revenue by selling education services, which will be used to back the value of the Aura, making it a trusted and widely accepted currency.\n\nPeople can learn more and sign up for citizenship through Lumina’s [official government website](https://lumina.earth).\n\nAs the city-state of Lumina continues to develop, it will be interesting to see how this unique experiment in direct democracy plays out and the impact it may have on the wider world. Lumina is one of many movements which can be described as a Network State or Special Economic Zones, which is a broader movement with the goal of establishing free and sovereign cities around the world.",

            "content_html": "\n*On a warm, breezy morning, the wheat in the field rustles. Rays of sunlight create a solid warm glow. The porch to the old barn house creaks against the weight of an old chair. Raised high and proud against the house's roof is Old Glory, her stars shining against the sunlight.*\n\nThe Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word banal as, \"lacking originality, freshness, or novelty\". When used with nationalism, it creates a new meaning, however. The Society Pages, in reference to Michael Billig's book that coined the term, writes, \"In his book by the same name, Michael Billig coined the term 'banal nationalism' to draw attention to the ways in which nationalism was not only a quality of gun-toting, flag-waving 'extremists,' but was quietly and rather invisibly reproduced by all of us in our daily lives.\"\n\nI was first introduced to this term a few days ago during NAVA 54, or the 54th annual meeting of the North American Vexillological Association. Vexillology, the study of flags, fits well with the concept of banal nationalism. In the example text I gave (which could fit perfectly in any novel taking place in rural America), banal nationalism is shown through the use of the United States flag (or by one of its popular nicknames, \"Old Glory\").\n\nThe U.S. flag is for a great reason the most commonly used instance of banal nationalism in the United States. Practically any other symbol would not make sense against the unique nature of the U.S. flag. For instance, if you saw the great seal of the U.S. (which is shown prominently on the reverse of the $1 bill) on a t-shirt, that would not make nearly as much sense as to include the easily recognizable U.S. flag.\n\nThe songs *The Star-Spangled Banner*, *The Star and Stripes Forever*, *Hail to the Chief*, *America the Beautiful*, and *Yankee Doodle* are used in similar contexts but still pale in comparison to the common nature of the flag (also given the fact that songs are audio exclusively and flags, therefore, have a much greater reach — it would be nonsensical for a store to sell apparel for July 4th with *Yankee Doodle* playing instead of displaying festive American flags).\n\nNo other symbol, let alone flag, has created such controversy, such inspiration, yet is in most cases remains completely unnoticed. I noted this in one of my first times leaving the United States, during my visit to France. It made me realize how often flags are used and how often we simply ignore their presence. A French could come to the U.S. and say the same thing about the United States flag. As an American, I have never come to question the flag's presence in churches, fields, capitols, in front of buildings, covering people's buttocks, etc.\n\nYou can be a nationalist without being a hick. In fact, many of us are. If you own a United States flag, own a t-shirt with the flag on it, or have ever said the Pledge of Allegiance, you've engaged in some form of banal nationalism, the other, less sexy (and less racist) form of nationalism.",

Yet the Chinese are trying to bring the naughty region closer under its wing.\n\nOne of the things that have resulted from this is a new system of taxation in Hong Kong. All land in Hong Kong is owned by the Special Administrative Region, which means that taxation in Hong Kong is essentially in the form of rents.\n\nA standard feature of communist nations like the People's Republic of China, government ownership of all land in a nation is not special by a long shot to Hong Kong. The result of this policy is very special to Hong Kong, however.\n\nAccording to the website Numbeo, apartments in Hong Kong can range from 12,338.46 HKD per month for a 1 bedroom apartment outside the city centre all the way to 38,486.30 HKD per month for a 3 bedroom apartment inside the city centre. As of the original publication date of this article, that equates to 1,592.03 to 4,965.88 USD per month or 2,303.029-7,183.64 AUD per month.\n\nThese prices would be normal in a large American city like San Francisco or New York City, but considering that the GDP per capita of Hong Kong (approximately the average income of Hong Kongers) was just around 48,675 USD in 2018 according to the World Bank compared to the jobs in SF and NYC that pay upwards of $100,000 USD per year.\n\n**One of the contributing reasons to these abnormally high real estate prices (at least compared to income) in Hong Kong is due to the fact that the Hong Kong government has an incentive to keep prices as high as possible because real estate represents the majority of the government's revenue.**\n\nDespite having the world's most skyscrapers of any city in the world, despite being able to take back some land from the sea for new apartments, despite being able to use some parklands for new apartments (which would not go without controversy in its own right), Hong Kong still has unsustainable real estate prices due to government manipulation.\n\nThe Hong Kong real estate crisis has made it clear that the Hong Kong government is willing to cater to real estate development companies (some of which the government actually actually has a shareholding in) in order to keep prices higher.\n\nThe government has made it clear to developers that real estate is one of the industries in Hong Kong that the government is willing to protect and bailout (think the Hong Konger version of \"too big to fail\").\n\nThis cartel between the government and the developers has only one victim—the people of Hong Kong, who are forced to cramp into ever smaller apartments, even cages, just as a means to live in *their* city.",

            "content_html": "As the old saying goes, \"The rich get richer and the poor get poorer\". The cause of some people living easily while others live in poverty has been pondered by economists for centuries and has lead to wildly differing opinions about inequality, its nature, and its causes.\n\nInequality is caused by differing levels of returns on investments. Investments are not necessarily investments of capital, but can also refer to investments made with labor and other key assets (as they also say, \"time is money\").\n\nWhile the wages of the working class (the working class's ROI) may only rise by 3-4% every year, the capital of investors (the investor's ROI) typically earns higher than 8% per year. While the working class does get wealthier, it is not nearly as much as the wealth increase as investors gain.\n\nOne of the primary objectives of economics in the past two centuries (ever since Ricardo and Marx) has been to try to study how politicians and market forces can influence inequality. This is covered in much further detail in Piketty's book, *Capital in the Twenty-First Century*.\n\nFor most people, economic inequality is not necessarily problematic. There exists great value in encouraging people to promote more to the economy and to be rewarded for that. On the other hand, *unsustainable inequality growth* (not as sexy as \"inequality\" for sure) is a much greater problem, and a problem that is faced now in the early twenty-first century, and will continue to be faced for decades.\n\nUnsustainable inequality growth can lead to *massive* differences between the wealth amassed by investors and the working class. Bezos' total wealth represents the total salaries collected by at least one million Americans in one year. This massive collection of wealth is due to differences in the rate of return on investments, such as by Bezos, or by a common working American.\n\nThe solution to eliminating *bad* inequality is to eliminating unsustainable inequality growth. This means that for inequality to be *healthy*, growth must be *equal* between investors and the working class.\n\nMany solutions exist to this problem, but unfortunately many require government intervention. Companies have no true natural incentive to give their employees more. It would take money away from investors, who they need for survival. Sacrificing growth for more equality between workers and investors means potentially sacrificing a company's lifeline.\n\nDespite this, companies could try changing the way they understand their ownership structures. They can replace their Wall Street owners with Main Street owners. This can be done through encouraging greater market participation by the general public, by creating an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), by creating a workers cooperative (a step further from an ESOP), or by creating a customers cooperative.\n\nMarket-based approaches are much harder than simple government decree, but face much less controversy (especially by those bugging liberals and \"free-market advocates\"). My ideas regarding government interference to limit unequal inequality growth include\n\n- Creating a national pension program for workers\n- Implementing a Universal Basic Income\n- Requiring universally mandated baseline wage growth, preferably beating inflation\n- Implementing greater capital gains taxes for the rich while providing little to none for the working class\n- Taxing wealth and not just income\n- Eliminating VAT and sales taxes, which have a negative effect on the ROI differential\n\nOf course, the most simple government intervention to solve this problem would be socialism but that without a doubt cause a civil war.\n\nIn conclusion, the greatest problem regarding inequality, which itself is the greatest problem that most economists try to solve, is unbalanced inequality growth. There are many solutions to it, both market and government mandated, and neither goes without problem or controversy. However, if we want to preserve liberty and equality, more steps will need to be taken to ensure that division does not cripple our world.",

            "id": "https://lightsquare.org/news/mercantilism-is-back-and-it-is-here-to-stay",
            "content_html": "Mercantilism is the belief that European states held centuries ago that drove them to the several phases of colonialism, culminating in a significant portion of the world's population and land being held by the smallest continent.\n\nMercantilism is the belief that wealth is generated in an economy by favorable balances of trade. If Britain wanted to gain wealth, it would need to *export* more than it *imported*. One way that this happened was through the extraction of resources in colonies, where the balance of trade was almost entirely favorable to the European power.\n\nMercantilism is considered an old, out of touch idea. As Project Syndicate described, \"… mercantilism is typically dismissed as an archaic and blatantly erroneous set of ideas about economic policy\".[[1]](https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/the-return-of-mercantilism-by-dani-rodrik?barrier=accesspaylog) Despite this, policies that reflect mercantilism are gaining popularity as nationalism gains a stronghold in countless countries across the world, most notably in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.\n\nAmong the greatest examples of mercantilist policies in action in today's world are found in the trade situation between the United States and China. President Trump has engaged in one of the longest-lasting trade wars in American history with the aim of protecting American interests in exports.\n\nPresident Trump argues that because American imports from China are greater than Chinese imports from America, money is leaving the American economy which can be hard to recover. While trade deficits do pose some negative impacts on American trade, it is increasingly hard to conclude that American-Chinese trade is bleeding America dry of US Dollars.\n\nTrade was once the greatest source of wealth, investment, and opportunity in the world's economy. The European power that controlled trade at any particular moment in time — whether it be the Portuguese, English, or Dutch — held the symbolic throne over the world's economy.\n\nDuring the time when the Dutch solidified control over the lucrative \"East Indian\" trade through the *Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie* (commonly known in English as the *VOC* and Dutch East India Company), the Netherlands was the wealthiest country on an individual basis in the whole world. Before this time, it was practically a backwater.\n\nNowadays, however, *global* trade is actually becoming less of an influence in the markets, a trend which should continue for decades. Much of the new wealth in the world today is created entirely digitally. Some of the most valuable companies — Microsoft, Alphabet, Facebook, and more — create trillions of dollars of wealth with very little to no physical product, meaning no trade.\n\nWhile many of the ideas of nationalism are beneficial to the world, such as its influence in helping to end colonialism, promoting peace in the 20th century, and creating a common bond between all people in a nation, other nationalist ideas foster division and a sense of \"us versus them\". Mercantilism as an economic policy creates a social framework for division between one nation and its potential allies and friends.\n\nWith the rise of new nationalist leaders in the world today, we can expect to see more mercantilist policies that could create division in the world economy in an economy that's more dependent on interconnectedness and the Internet for growth.",

            "content_html": "**JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI** – As of June 30, 2020, the U.S. State of Mississippi has no flag. Today, Mississippi's Republican Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill removing the State's flag, which displayed the Confederate War Flag in the Canton.\n\nFor more than a century, this flag sent a message to the Black community of Mississippi, a message of alienation and exclusion from their government and state.\n\nJust before signing, Governor Reeves' said, \"There is a difference between monuments and flags. A monument acknowledges and honors our past, a flag is a symbol of our present, of our people, and of our future. For those reasons, we need a new symbol.\"\n\nIt is my hope that these words become a message of solidarity with the Black community of Mississipi and a catalyst for change in the South. When teachers in the future teach about racism, it is my hope that 30 July 2020 will be the day when the last blatant symbol of systemic racism is extinguished, and hopefully when racism is removed from the United States.\n\nThis move is another reminder that popular, united action causes change, a conclusion that has unfortunately been hard to accept recently.",
